The Outback Strong Summer Lunch Program has wrapped up its third year in Lakeview under the sponsorship of Lake Health District. 2019 sites included Lakeview Commons-North, 840 North H St., Lakeview; and McDonald Park, aka the Kiddie Park, at the corner of South F and South Seventh Streets. We also served meals during OSU Extension’s Lego Camp, First Baptist Church’s vacation Bible school, and Kindergarten Camp at Fremont Elementary.

This summer was our biggest year yet. We handed out 5,494 lunches. That’s a 7% increase over 2018 and a 132% increase over our first summer lunch program. Not surprisingly, the Kiddie Park was our most popular site. We served 4,050 meals at that site alone — 26% more than last year and 117% more than we handed out in 2017.

We are even more excited about our Lakeview Commons-North site, where we handed out 873 lunches. That is a 157% increase over last year, our first year operating the site.
